Watercolour taster - Autumn leaves

Start your watercolour painting journey here.

Create beautiful watercolour effects as you paint colourful autumn leaves.

This is a lesson I have used with my groups both in-person and via Zoom. It is suitable for beginners or anyone wishing to practice watercolours in a relaxed and mindful way.

Learn 4 basic watercolour techniques

In this video lesson you will learn how to use the wet-in-wet technique to create beautiful effects. See also how scratching out, spattering and backruns can create marks and texture.

You will need the following materials:

watercolour materials: paints, brush and paper

mixing palette

2 water containers (e.g. jam jars)

an old loyalty or credit card

a toothbrush

kitchen towel

The lesson is broken down into three bite-sized video demonstrations and also includes guidance on setting up your materials and next step ideas. The videos are accompanied by downloadable instruction sheets which can be printed as needed.
